Lighthouses!

The Beauty of Coastal Maine

This is going to be another short update (no, it's not the travel-related one that I have promised in consecutive updates), but I just had to share some of the photos from the remarkable Portland Head Light in South Portland, Maine.

I am here for a few days with my family on a long weekend getaway and staying in the loveliest condo with the nicest host ever (not sure if the condo lessee is considered the host, but I'm calling Beth our host anyways). Beth is a super talented interior decorator that has honestly forever raised my expectations when it comes to vacation rentals. She and her husband also have a panoramic photography business, so I'm extra impressed by all of the panoramic images of lighthouses scattered throughout the condo. Please, please, please check out their website (eaarts.com) because it may be the best collection of Maine photography I've seen.

Just to give you a quick backstory – I randomly woke up at 630am on Saturday morning to grab a glass of water (I actually had to use the bathroom, but I was informed that that information was not needed in this post.... Oh whoops). On my walk back to my room, I noticed a soft yellowish glimmer of light on the horizon. I was kind of shocked to see that because the previous 24 hours had been downpour after downpour of rain, accompanied by 50mph gusts of wind. Knowing that Portland Head Light was nearby, I grabbed my camera bag and tripod and bolted out the door (after waking up the parents, obviously, because I'm a responsible lad). A quick 5-minutes later I was set up on the cliff waiting and hoping for a spectacle.... and boy did I get one.

After my initial lighthouse shots, I scampered down the ledge to the rocky shoreline below and started snapping away like a maniac. As I was caught in the middle of this stunning light, I realized that there is a reason that photographers talk about a golden hour.

... (sorry, i'm doing that thing where I wrote a bunch and now I'm thinking about wrapping this up and eating some more of my siracha and avocado pizza. Trying to power through!!)...

Much like my least favorite movie on the planet, Groundhogs Day, I woke up again this morning and was equally as surprised to see a sunrise starting to unfold. Again, I did the same thing (including waking up the parents). Unfortunately for me, I spent about three minutes too much time studying the movement of the clouds and ended up missing the best of the pink sunrise at the lighthouse. Regardless of that, I still got photos that I'm proud of!

I should be adding these pictures to my collections very very soon. If you have any interest in purchasing any of them, please contact me and I can give you sizes and pricing!

I'm super sleepy and my pizza is calling me, so I must go abruptly once more!

Cheers,

BP
